PCGS Gen 2.1 Varieties

The following are the three varieties of gen 2.1. I originally recognized only two varieties, gen 2.1A, which was lacking PCGS printed at the top of front label and gen 2.1B which had PCGS at top of label. I came to realize that there are two varieties of gen 2.1A and that the actual production order was gen 2.1B first then gen 2.1A. Gen 2.1B only came with wide perforations on label edges and PCGS printed at the top of the front label. That matched the gen 2.0 Doily label style. Some gen 2.1A holders also came with wide perforations but most have fine perforation edges. Thanks to Brian for bringing those distinctions to my attention. That new info encouraged further research. I am now quite sure that 2.1A was produced after 2.1B. It also led me to break gen 2.1A into two varieties, gen 2.1A Type 1 (wide perforations) and gen 2.1A Type 2 (fine perforations). All three are shown below for comparison.

Population Ratio Estimates

Based on years of observation and documentation, my best estimate is that the overall population of gen 2.1A Type 2 to 2.1A Type 1 is approximately 10 to 1 respectively.

My estimate for the ratio of gen 2.1A to 2.1B is also approximately 10 to 1 respectively. My original estimated ratio for 2.1A & B was 5 to 1 but after more time and documentation, it has became clear that gen 2.1B is even more scarce than I originally thought.

Any further population estimate changes as I continue to monitor these holders will be updated in the future
